Terms & Conditions
Classroom
Students who are under 18 years of age are required to attend the classroom portion of driver education to secure a drivers’ license.
Students who are 18 years of age or older are not required to attend the classroom portion of driver education to secure a drivers’ license but must take or have previously taken the class to obtain the Adult Waiver.
Classroom instruction will begin on on the day you selected in suite 202 at 4901 Fitzhugh Avenue from 10 AM to 1:50 PM unless otherwise informed. Regular attendance is required. Students are expected to be on time for the class with the necessary materials and completed assignments. If the student missed a class, all class work must be made up.
Students who leave the class for more than one day without prior approval from the instructor, will automatically be dropped from the class and all fees will be forfeited. Students may receive a refund (less the deposit) within the first three days of class, with parental notification to the instructor in writing.
The instruction does not guarantee the student will pass the DMV license examination and that the students will secure a drivers’ license or that the student will be guaranteed employment upon completion of the course.
Students are expected to have the proper respect for the facilities and materials provided by River City Driving School. Damage and defacement of any of the facilities will result in costs assessed for repairs.
Each student will be issued a workbook in good condition to be used in the class. The book has to be returned to the instructor after the classroom portion is finished. A textbook, which is marked, abused in anyway, or lost, will result in a replacement fee of $35.00.
Students may not bring electronic devices to class. Students should remain in the classroom area and away from other offices.
Any student who has a behavioral problem and/or violates the above policy will be expelled from class and all fees will be forfeited.
If River City Driving School is incapable of completing the program in a timely fashion a refund is available upon a written request.
Behind the Wheel
According to Virginia state law each student under the age of 18 is required not only a classroom portion of drivers education but also a “Behind the Wheel”(BTW) component. The law states that each student must complete 7 days of BTW and each student is required to drive for 50 minutes and observe another student drive for 50 minutes.
A DMV certified and licensed instructor will be in the passenger seat during BTW with a brake and rear view mirror. The Instructor may determine at any time that the student isn’t ready to test for his or her license and may recommend more practice at home with a parent or guardian.
The 7th day of BTW is the road test. If the student passes, River City Driving School will issue the student a temporary license that becomes active when the student has held their learners for 9 months. At this point there is no need to go back to DMV!!! . The city/county the student resides will send a postcard telling the student the date and time of the licensing ceremony where they will receive the hard copy license.
Since the last day of BTW is the road test the student should have close to 20 hours of at home driving practice with a parent or guardian. The student needs 45 hours 15 at night by law to get their license. I will not require a log but the parent will sign on the temporary license that this state requirement has or will be completed before they drive by themselves with their license.
River City Driving School requires a 24 hour notice of cancellation for all BTW sessions. The reason this is important because as stated before the law requires each student drive and observe so if one student doesn’t show it affects the other student scheduled to drive at that time. If a 24 hour notice isn’t provided the student will be charged a $25 fee. All fees must be paid before the temporary license will be issued.
